Charity's Story

This is Charity in 2010 the day we brought her home.
The Lake County Agriculture Crimes Department contacted another rescue team and ourselves to come and pick up four horse's that were victims of animal cruelty and neglect, When the Horses were picked up from their former home Charity had her dead foal at her side in the stall with her, Take a moment not just as a member of this community but as a human being and picture and feel the emotions that had to be going on through this horses' mind as she watched herself and her foul die from starvation. Our hearts were literally broke for this horse who we named Charity because at that moment who needed it most. This once proud thoroughbred that competed in several races had now been tossed aside as a lossing ticket. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but the picture above does not even begin to scratch the surface of the near death condition she was in her skin was literally hugging her bones like shrink-wrap. We didn’t know if she was going to live or die let alone make it back to our rescue for us to begin to administer the love and affection let alone her many medical needs. However as she exited the trailer I could tell from the spark in her eyes if she wasnt willing to give up neither were we. This is what Charity looks like today.(See Picture Below) This is just one of many animal abuse cases that happens every day and most of the time these tragedies go unnoticed and there isnt always happy endings. Not for the lack of interest or concern in the Agriculture Crimes Departments but more to the lack of funding and severe understaffing for example there are only three officers at this time designated to invistigate and try to inforce these crimes in Volusia County,Fl. We as compassionate members of this Country need to get involved weather it be volunteering your time, helping raise money for your local rescues or if you suspect animal cruelty is taking place call your local law inforcement agency. Thank you.

Jill, the horse pictured to the left, was our 22 year old Tennessee Walker. Unfortunately the owner of Jill was unable to feed her properly and she was literally starving to death. We instantly fell in love with Jill and adopted her into our family several years ago. We were very blessed to restore Jill to a happy healthy horse but as all horses that reach the end of their life expectancy, Jill sadly passed away September 19, 2010. We truly adored her. She will be greatly missed. We think of her everyday.
Happy heathy horses are our first priority around here. We truly enjoy providing all the horses we have with a good home.
A Poem for Jill...
Dont Cry for the Horses
Dont cry for the horses that life has set free a million white horses forever to be they were ours as a gift but never to keep as they close their eyes forever to sleep their spirits unbound on sliver wings they fly a million white horses against the blue sky Look up into heaven you'll see them above The horses we lost the horses we loved Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time they were never yours they were never mine Dont cry for the horses they will be back someday when our time has come they will show us the way. Do you hear that soft nicker close to your ear? Dont cry for the horses love the ones that are here..
